Rochdale Rider Wins Tottie Sponsorship

HISTORY teacher, Jodie Beswitherick couldn’t believe her luck when she won a competition in Horse&Rider magazine to win equestrian sponsorship, clothing and horse rugs!

Jodie entered the competition and was delighted when she received a letter saying she had won £1,000 sponsorship cash, £500 worth of Tottie leisure clothing and £500 to spend on rugs.

A keen event rider, Jodie (26) is based at Norden near Rochdale, and mainly competes at horse trials in her spare time when not busy teaching A’level history.

Said Jodie: “When I received the letter explaining that I had actually won the Tottie sponsorship I was really surprised.  It was brilliant news and I immediately turned to thinking how I could spend the money.

Jodie’s and her Dutch cross thoroughbred Ozka, compete in Pre-Novice eventing and she also takes him showjumping and to dressage competitions in preparation for the horse trials.

Ozka is a six-year-old, dapple grey gelding and Jodie has owned him for 18 months after buying him for the breeder in Portsmouth.

Added Jodie: “He is such a lovely horse but at times he can be a bit difficult and I am planning that the £1,000 sponsorship money be used for more training to help me progress up the competition ladder.

“I currently train with Tracey Newman for help with our show jumping. Tracey is a former stable jockey for John Whitaker so has a lot of experience with different horses. Mike Jones is a real help with our dressage performance too.

“The sponsorship money will go towards extra training with them both and I am sure this will really make a huge difference to our performance at competitions.

“The Tottie wear and Masta rugs were also a great addition to the prizes. I love my Cali tunic top and Ozka loves his new Masta stable and outdoor rugs.”

Jodie and Ozka are planning to compete throughout the winter in show jumping and dressage competitions to get their all round performance up to scratch in the hope they can move up to Novice Level at eventing next season.
